Mayflower Gulch - Snowshoeing

May 4, 2019 ~ Mayflower Gulch is on the west side of the Ten Mile Range and part of the Avalanche Amphitheatre along the range. This very short trek has spectacular views. There are two ways into the bowl of Fletcher Mountain. The first is along a trail that obscures views of Fletcher Mountain, the other is pretty much straight up the middle of the valley following the stream to the bowl, this is the preferred route with spectacular views the entire length of the gulch.

Mohawk Lakes ~ Cut Short - Snowshoeing

May 3, 2019 ~ The original plan for this snowshoeing trek was to go to at least Lower Mohawk Lake and at best to Upper Mohawk Lake. I have been to Mohawk Lakes in a previous summer hiking season, so I wasn't sure how far I could get. I do remember that the pitch to Lower Mohawk Lake is steep and that there is a steep incline along the side of Lower Mohawk Lake on the way to Upper Mohawk Lake.

Meadow Mountain - Snowshoeing

Janurary 26, 2019 ~ The Meadow Mountain trail at the Minturn exit along I-70 is interesting, it is super easy access and during the winter caters to many winter activities, including: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, Telemark skiing, down-hill skiing, snowboarding, toboggining and snowmobiling and add mountain biking and hiking in the summer. I think one of the reasons this area can offer so many different winter activities options is because of its history.

Middle Lake Basin

September 29, 2018 ~ The hike to Middle Lake Basin in White River National Forest is a tough one. Half of the trail is along a route called Dead Dog Trail, that name alone makes this trail a must. Dead Dog Trail intersects with Middle Lake Trail and takes you the rest of the way to Middle Lake. However, given the steepness of this trail it made it slow going and difficult; not technically difficult, just difficult due to the slope of the trail.

Lower Slate Lake

June 29 - 30, 2018 ~ The hike to Lower Slate Lake in Eagles Nest Wilderness was a two-day hike, it turned out to be just over 27 miles roundtrip. It's a very lumpy trail for the first 5+ miles as the Gore Range trail skirts the tails of the valleys, so a lot of up and down through tall stands of Evergreens that have been hit hard by beetle kill. Once past Slate Creek there are vast expanses of lush green valleys, high peaks and clear blue sky. Simply Breathtaking.

Mohawk Lakes

August 19, 2017 ~ Mohawk Lakes in the White River National Forest is just south of Breckenridge and sits in a high and very wide glacial valley. There are six lakes in the Mohawk Lakes chain and just before the Mohawk Lakes are the Mayflower Lakes. There are a couple of different starting points to get to Mohawk Lakes, either the Spruce Creek trail head or along the Wheeler Trail. As such, Lower Mohawk Lake is a very popular destination. Camping and fly fishing are very popular activities at Lower Mohawk Lake.
